Quilter’s Paradise was started by Lisa Byers in 1994, as a family run business in Water Mill, NY. For it’s first few years Quilter’s Paradise was a vendor at Quilt Shows and a shop run out of the Byers’ family home. In 2001 the website Quilter’s Paradise Online was created and Lisa and crew stopped vending at Quilt Shows and changed the store to 100% online sales. Quilter’s Paradise was one of the first online quilt shops, one of the first members of Quiltshops.com and grew quickly.

In 2009, after fifteen years, Lisa Byers decided to retire and sold Quilter’s Paradise Online to a long time family friend, Ingrid Remkus. Ingrid and Lisa’s eldest son Richie have been best friends since they were three years old, here is a picture of them at the beach in Sag Harbor when they were 5 or so….

Ingrid graduated SUNY Albany with a BA in Political Science in 2000. She worked in her early career as a union organizer for 1199 SEIU the nations largest healthcare union. In 2004, she decided to try her hand in corporate America, and took a position as a recruiter or “head hunter” in Manhattan, NY. Ingrid spent the next three years recruiting investment bankers, equity research analysts, and other high level Wall Street executives. Then the economic downturn hit, and the investment banks stopped hiring. With no hiring there isn’t much work for recruiters, and as a result Ingrid began to spend time at home in Sag Harbor with her family. She reconnected with Lisa and began to help out with the daily operation of Quilter’s Paradise.

Within a few months, Ingrid knew she was in love with the Quilting business. She and her mother, Pam, began quilting and caught the quilt pox! In September 2009, Ingrid purchased Quilter’s Paradise and moved the inventory (some 5000+ Bolts) to a warehouse in Buchanan, NY. Buchanan is about 45 miles North of Manhattan on the Hudson River in Westchester County.

Lisa has agreed to stay on as the Creative or Quilting Director of Quilter’s Paradise. For Lisa it’s an opportunity to focus on creating new patterns, kits, and projects and also on assisting our customers with their technical quilting questions – the parts of owning Quilter’s Paradise she enjoys the most! Ingrid runs and maintains the day to day business of the shop including cutting and shipping orders, maintaining inventory, and helping customers complete their purchases.

It is our hope that under this new arrangement Quilter’s Paradise will continue to grow. Stay tuned for lots of exciting new fabric lines, new patterns and kits by Lisa Byers, and a new web site design that we think you’ll find even easier to navigate! We will continue our mission of stocking all your favorite fabrics, notions, books, and patterns and having them available online 24-7 right at your fingertips.
